Ermengol Tolsà
Argentina, 1958

Ermengol Tolsà is a multidisciplinary artist influenced by Dadaism, whose career spans illustration, caricature, sculpture, and artistic installation. His work is characterized by an ironic and subversive reinterpretation of reality, transforming everyday objects into pieces with strong symbolic and conceptual significance. He began his career in 1979 by publishing in the Argentine magazine Hortensia and, since 1985, has resided in Lleida, where he regularly collaborates with the newspaper La Mañana. His Bombones series, in which gas cylinders are transformed into sculptures with unexpected shapes, exemplifies his interest in found objects and the fusion of art and everyday life.
Throughout his career, he has exhibited in various countries across Europe and Latin America. In 2023, he presented a collection of twenty pieces at the Mas Blanch i Jové winery, showcasing a facet of his work beyond press caricature. His artistic production has been recognized with awards such as the prestigious Mingote Prize (1993), the Medal of the Paeria of Lleida (2023), and the title of Notary of Humor, granted by the University of Alicante that same year in recognition of his contribution to contemporary graphic language.
In addition to his creative work, in 2020, he donated more than 20,000 original drawings to the Municipal Archive of Lleida and the Jaume Morera Art Museum, leaving behind a visual chronicle of the past 35 years through his critical and humorous perspective. Currently, he continues to develop work that challenges conventions and establishes a dialogue between art, society, and visual communication, solidifying his place as a key figure in the Catalan artistic scene.
